The Talking Horn.

The Talking Horn (Cameroon): Highlights the significance of listening and the power of wise advice.

Once upon a time, in a small village in Cameroon, there lived a wise old man named Mbe. Mbe was known throughout the village for his wisdom and his ability to give sound advice to anyone who sought it. One day, a young man named Nkem came to Mbe seeking advice.
Nkem was a skilled hunter, but he was not content with the animals he was able to catch in the forest near the village. He had heard rumors of a magical forest, far beyond the village, where the animals were larger and more plentiful than any he had ever seen. Nkem was determined to find this forest and bring back its treasures.
Mbe listened patiently to Nkem’s plans and then gave him a small horn. “Take this horn with you on your journey,” Mbe said. “If you ever find yourself lost or in danger, blow the horn and it will guide you back to safety.”
Nkem was skeptical but took the horn anyway and set out on his journey. He traveled for many days through the forest, and eventually, he came to a clearing where he heard the sound of many animals. Excitedly, he blew the horn to call the animals to him.
To his surprise, the horn began to speak! “Nkem, you are a skilled hunter, but you are not wise,” the horn said. “You have come to a magical forest, but you do not understand its power. Leave this place and return to your village before it is too late.”
Nkem was shocked but heeded the horn’s advice and returned to the village. When he arrived, he found that a terrible drought had struck the land. The animals were scarce, and the crops were failing. Nkem realized that if he had stayed in the magical forest, he would have been trapped there, unable to return to his village and help his people.
From that day on, Nkem listened carefully to the advice of the wise old man, Mbe, and he never forgot the power of the talking horn. He became a respected member of the community, known not only for his hunting skills but also for his wisdom and his ability to give sound advice to those who sought it.
