The Elephant and the Tortoise.
The Elephant and the Tortoise
Once upon a time, in the vast African savannah, there lived a proud and mighty elephant named Tembo. He was the largest and strongest animal in the land and he knew it. Tembo would often boast about his strength and size, making fun of the smaller animals like the tortoise.
The tortoise, on the other hand, was small and slow but he was wise and clever. He knew that he could never match the elephant’s strength, but he was confident in his own abilities.
One day, Tembo challenged the tortoise to a race. The tortoise accepted, but on one condition – that they race from one end of the savannah to the other, but the elephant must carry the tortoise on his back.
Tembo laughed at the tortoise’s request, thinking it would be an easy win. He agreed to the challenge and the race began.
As they started to run, the tortoise whispered into Tembo’s ear, “Slow and steady wins the race.” Tembo didn’t listen and ran as fast as he could. However, as they reached the halfway point, Tembo began to tire and slow down.
The tortoise, who had been conserving his energy, saw his chance and urged Tembo to keep going. Tembo, exhausted and defeated, finally gave up and collapsed.
The tortoise emerged victorious, proving that brains can beat brawn. Tembo learned a valuable lesson that day and never again underestimated the power of a small and wise opponent.
From that day on, Tembo and the tortoise became good friends, and Tembo learned to respect all creatures, no matter their size or strength.
